Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing my Will You Be My Valentine Viking? for my Design Team Inspiration for Paper Nest Dolls. Can you see a theme this week in my Valentine cards for my Hubby? Lol! He loves history especially Vikings! So, I used Viking Andrew with mustache ties from the Viking Bundle. This bundle has three characters and two animals – Viking Andrew (with and without the mustache ties), Viking Owen, Viking Dragon, and Viking Boar. I have created several Viking cards over the years and will include links to them at the end of this post as well.
The Details of my Card
I had so much fun colouring with my Copic markers this brawny guy in appropriate Viking colours! His colouring even matches another card called My Let’s Go A-Viking Card that I made for Paper Nest Dolls for their New Year’s Day Event. Wouldn’t these two make a perfect pair!
My Let’s Go a Viking Card
For my card, I found some neat digital paper with Viking watercolour images that suited my theme. The Viking ships in the bottom panel were from an invitation in the digital package, and I just cropped it to include only the ships. I then had a choice of which ship to highlight and went with the red/white sail one to match my reds.
Close Up of Viking Andrew
Since this is for my Hubby, I kept the embellishments minimal with several die-cut hearts for my Valentine theme and a scattering of red rhinestones. I love how the Viking chipboard accents highlight the fun sentiment that I punch out with heart punches.

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Viking Love Valentine Card using the Brave Vikings Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up! My Hubby loves history and especially Vikings! He even has a Viking outfit with sword tor Society for Creative Anachronisms events. So, it was a given that I would get this stamp set as soon as I saw it.
TheDetails of My Card
For my card, I decided to use the Pattern Party Designer Series Paper that you can get for free with a qualifying hostess party. This paper is awesome! It has so many patterns for different occasions and seasons, and you get 48 sheets (4 each of 12 double-sided designs)! The colourful hearts are perfect for a Valentine card and the diagonal stripe paper matches those colours perfectly!
I used the Heart Punch Pack to punch out my DSP and matching scallop hearts. The little Poppy Parade stitched hearts are from the Give It a Whirl Dies. I scattered the hearts willy-nilly to mirror to the whimsey of the Stitched with Whimsey Die on the Basic White.
Once I stamped the Viking girl in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, I pulled out my Stampin’ Blends to colour her using the colours pulled from the DSP. I then fussy cut her out. I placed her on the card so that she is pointing at the sentiment like she is saying the words. A scattering of Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels adds a bit of sparkle to the card.
Supplies:
Stamps/Bundles/Dies: Brave Vikings (157926), Stitched with Whimsey Dies (155314), Give It a Whirl Dies (154336)
Inks: Tuxedo Black Memento Ink (132708)

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing My Winter Sweethearts Card as my last Guest Design Team Card for Conie Fong Art & Design. I am so excited that I have been asked to become a permanent Design Team Member with them starting in March! Yippee!
For my card, I used Winter Sweethearts and coloured them with my Copic markers to match my paper in purples and taupes. I coloured the girl in purples since it is one of my favourite colours. I coloured the boy with matching hat/jeans and boots/sweater since my hubby is all about matchy-matchy! LOL! Wouldn’t they make a great Valentine, Anniversary, Christmas, anything love card, but I made them my winter sweethearts!

Hello Crafty Friends! Now that Valentine’s Day is over, I can share with you my You Slay Me Valentine Card that I gave to my Hubby. My Hubby loves anything that involves history and Vikings. He even has a Viking costume including a sword with scabbard for Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) events and Halloween. In addition to that, we are currently re-watching the Vikings TV Series. When I saw that Stamp Anniething’s January release was Vikings, I just had to get the whole release! There are three Vikings in it. I used two of them on this card and the third is on another card that I will share later.
Details of My Card
I coloured both of these cuties with my Copic markers in the colours of the main characters in the Vikings TV Series…all blonde hair and natural tones, other than Siv’s skirt to tie in my red hearts that I wanted to use. Gale comes with a number of different weapons that you can swap out depending on what you want. I went with the axe and added Glossy Accents to the metal part to make it look like polished steel. I created my two-tone shield with a number of circle dies of varying width. My Hubby informed me that Vikings preferred coloured shields when I was colouring Torin below.
My Colouring of Torin, The Third Viking in the Release
I love the sentiment “You slay me” that comes with Gale. Perfect pun for my Hubby’s Valentine card! It fitted nicely on the tag that I cut out of the matching paper. I added some twine and a die cut heart to add some visual interest to it. Some hearts and a couple of red rhinestones add a bit of pop in colour to my card.
My note to my Hubby said that I will be his Lagertha to his Ragnar always!

Hello Crafty Friends! Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s Laurie here! I am so excited to be joining Conie Fong Art & Design as a Guest Design Team Member again for February with my My Penguin Love Valentine Card! For my February GDT card, I am using 2 different stamps. The top penguin is calledPenguin Heartstrings bottom penguin is called Penguin Bundle of Love. Aren’t they just the cutest!
Close Up of Penguin Heartstrings
I coloured both of these stamps with my Copic markers in the traditional Valentine colours of pink and red. I then, decided that I wanted both of them on the same card. So, I went with a slimline card with lots of hearts for Valentine’s Day! For the sentiment, I used markers to colour just the part of the stamp that I wanted and then “huffed” (technical term lol) on it to activate the ink. For a bit of sparkle, I added glossy accents to the penguins’ beaks, feet and the heart that the Penguin Bundle of Love is holding. I also added Star Dust Stickles to the heartstrings of the other penguin. One final touch is a scattering of Red Rhinestones.

Hello Crafty Friends! It’sLaurie here sharing my Queen of Valentines Card using the digital version of Queen of Hearts Ellie by Paper Nest Dolls. This cute stamp come in both a rubber and a digital version. There is also a Wonderland Bundle that consists of Queen of Hearts Ellie, Emma in Wonderland, Mad Hatter Avery and Mischievous Cat. Love this Bundle! You can also buy them individually. I hope to colour more of them in the future!
Close Up of My Queen of Valentines Card
For, my card, I knew that I wanted to make a Valentine’s card with this stamp. Something a little different. Hence the Queen of Valentines!
I coloured sweet Ellie with my Copic markers and added Glossy Accents and Stardust Stickles in certain places to make her sparkle. The Down the Rabbit Hole paper was perfect for my card with all the crowns! I have had this Hearts Border Die forever and thought it reminded me of the Queen’s garden of roses in the book, but with hearts instead. I had fun creating my playing cards using a die from the Stamp Anniething, but it is easy enough to create them using other rectangle and heart dies. Of course, you have to have a Queen of Hearts playing card along with an Ace of Hearts and the “back” of a third card using the Valentine Paper with all the Valentine words. A die cut heart, white rick-rack, red/white twine, red rhinestones and a card charm tie this theme all together!

My Design Team Card for Rachelle Anne Miller Creative Studios
Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here with my I Love You Card for Rachelle Anne Miller Creative Studios using the cute ‘Bunny Balloons’ Digital Stamp.
Valentine’s Day is coming up and this digital stamp is a quick colour if you still need to make some card for your little ones. This stamp reminds me of the Valentine cards that I use to get as a child with the sweet animals on them! Love that the bunny is giving his tweet friend a bouquet of balloons!
I coloured this stamp with my Copic markers and decided that I wanted the heart balloons to pop. So, I made them solid with the heart highlights matching the other balloons. I then added glossy accents to make them shine. The bunny was coloured with a light hand of grays to give him a white appearance. The little bird was coloured blue to match the paper and the give a pop of a different colour. The Craft Tape I found in my stash was perfect bringing in the pinks, red and blues. The two Layered Valentine Accents gave the card some dimension. I added the arrow through the heart just because you just need an arrow through a heart for a Valentine’s card! A scattering of red rhinestones adds a bit more sparkle!

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here with My True Love Card for Rachelle Anne Miller Creative Studios using the sweet ‘Flowers for You’ Digital Stamp. This stamp is perfect for that special someone on Valentine’s Day!
I love it when I receive flowers from my Hubby and this stamp reminds me of those wonderful moments! So, I coloured with my Copic Markers the couple to look like us. I created a bouquet that mimics the bouquet that the boy is giving the girl, but I added some ribbon, linen thread and a heart trinket all mounted on a filigree die cut heart. For the Detailed Hearts Die cut, I cut it in half and then offset it in opposite corners. A heart paper clip and red rhinestones along with Clear Gelly Roll Pen on the hearts and Clear Wink of Stella on the large heart add a bit of sparkle and whimsy. I angled my coloured focal point so that you could see the paper beneath that says My True Love. That is what my card is all about.

My Guest Design Team Card for Conie Fong Art & Design
Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am so excited to be joining Conie Fong Art & Design as a Guest Design Team Member again for January! For my first GDT card for January, I created Molly’s Valentine Card using Molly’s Basket of Love – with headband. This stamp comes in a set of three digital stamps including Molly’s Basket of Love and Molly Fairy.
I have been wanting to colour this sweet image for a while and thought that with Valentine’s Day next month, she would be perfect! Since she is a Valentine card, I coloured her with my Copic markers in pinks, reds and browns to match my paper. I pulled out my Be Mine Stitched Dies for the large heart and the cluster of smaller ones. For embellishments, I went into my stash of Stampin’ Up! trinkets for the key and heart lock and tied them with red/pink/white twine to a wooden heart. The twine ends were shaped into a heart since you can never have too many hearts on a Valentine card! I just love the ribbon with its soft curves and lacey details. A scattering of red rhinestones and Clear Wink of Stella on all of Molly’s hearts and the bow on her basket, add a bit of sparkle.

Will You be my Valentine? Design Team Card for Paper Nest Dolls
Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here sharing my Will You Be My Valentine? Card for the Design Team of Paper Nest Dolls. Have you started your Valentine cards yet?
For my card, I used the sweet Emma with Panda. Even though this digital stamp isn’t a Valentine image, I thought that Emma made the perfect Valentine card with her panda! Wouldn’t you love to receive a panda like hers as a Valentine gift?
The Details of My Card
It was so much fun colouring Emma and her panda with my Copic markers! I decided to colour them red, white and black/gray to match the papers that I had picked out. Even though they are not Valentine papers, I wanted red/white dots to echo her shirt and the Magical Adventures paper was perfect for that! The Breeze Papers gave the card a bit of elegance while bringing in the white/black/gray to match everything else.
Since this is my Valentine’s card, I included hearts with the large white doily and the heart die from Penny Black. I used the White Gelly Roll Pen on the dots on her shirt. The Clear Wink of Stella is on her bow and shoes. The Black Gelly Roll Pen was used to give the Panda dimension in his eyes. The red and white jewel felt flowers were found in the dollar area of my local Michaels Arts & Crafts store.
Don’t you just love the Panda button with his glittery face! I had to make sure that the bow from my die was under him…like unwrapping a present! The Real Red Ruched Ribbon adds a nice touch of red behind the focal point. A couple of red and clear rhinestones add a bit of sparkle! Just goes to show you that you can make a Valentine card out of things that are not necessarily all Valentine!

Today I am sharing with you my Cardinal Anniversary Card using the Toile Christmas Stamp Set and matching Christmas Cardinal Dies by Stampin’ Up! I was asked by a good friend to create a custom anniversary card for her to give to her husband. She mentioned that he loves cardinals and she would like one on the card. So, I decided to that two cardinals, a male and female, would be perfect for an anniversary card. Did you know that cardinals mate for life!
I decided to create a Fall scene with the Woodland Embossing Folder and the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper since they were married in October. I love the copper and gold gilded leaves on the paper! To tie in the gold accents, I embossed the sentiment from the Well Said Stamp Set in gold. For an anniversary card, I had to pull in the hearts with the Stitched Be Mine Dies! Some Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels and Shimmery Crystal Effects on the berries add a bit of sparkle to the card.
I used a number of techniques to colour my birds such as the No-Lines, Flicking and Tip-to-Tip. I included more information below, as well as some colouring videos at the end of this post.
For the male cardinal, I used Cherry Cobbler Light/Dark Blends and the Dark Smokey Slate Blend to darken the shadows in strategic locations, such as his tail, his breast and wing, giving the bird depth. For the female cardinal, I used Crumb Cake Light/Dark Blends and Light Crumb Cake/Dark Cherry Cobbler Blends.
My Cardinals Coloured with Stampin’ Blends
No-Lines Technique
I coloured these beautiful cardinals with the no-lines technique. This technique uses a light colour to stamp the image. For the cardinals, I used the Sahara Sand Classic Stampin’ Pad. The lighter colour gives you a guideline for your colouring without the harsh black lines and makes the image more real and vibrant.
Flicking Technique
Once stamped, I used a flicking technique with my Blends to create a lot of texture. This technique is achieved by applying ink in quick, single strokes. The key to this inking technique is to flick the marker tip across the page to create a single stroke that goes from dark to light.
Holding the marker loosely, start a downward movement towards the paper
As the marker tip touches the paper, quickly move across the paper, bringing your hand up and away from the paper. This will apply more ink at the beginning of the stroke and less at the end.
You may need to turn the paper to accommodate the angle that is most comfortable for you.
Flicks can be left unblended to create texture such as for hair or feathers (like this card). Or, they can be blended out to create smooth shading.
The Tip-to-Tip Technique
To combine two different coloured blends on the female cardinal, I used the Tip to Tip Blending Technique. This gives you a smooth transition of colors and doesn’t end up looking all blotchy where the colors meet. I’ve chosen the Light Crumb Cake Blend and the Dark Cherry Cobbler Blend for the female cardinal.
Brush the tip of the Light Crumb Cake Blend over the tip of the Dark Cherry Cobbler Blend to pick up some color. The Crumb Cake Blend then acts as your brush to apply a mix of both colors.
As you apply the Crumb Cake Blend, the Cherry Cobbler will eventually run out and only Crumb Cake is left. This creates a smooth transition between the two colours. I kept working these blends together until I was happy with the amount of Cherry Cobber I had on the bird.
Don’t worry about your markers being contaminated—all you need to do is run them over some scrap paper a few times and the nibs will clean themselves.
