Parisian Beauty Sepia Card

Parisian Beauty Night of Navy Sepia Card
Parisian Beauty Night of Navy Sepia Card

Today I am sharing my Parisian Beauty Sepia Card using Night of Navy. I learned the Sepia Watercolouring Technique recently from fellow Demonstrator, Frances Elizabeth Kerr, who learned it from Gail Ellis at Blue Rose Paper Treasures. I love that there are so many resources out there to learn new things! For this neat card, I did a twist on the technique by using Night of Navy instead of Soft Suede. The key to a successful card is to allow enough drying time between the watercolour steps. Even though you use only a small amount of bleach, it really adds to the effect. Let’s get started!

Supplies:

Stamps:  Parisian Beauty Cling Stamp Set (151466), Very Versailles Cling Stamp Set (149275)

Inks: Night Of Navy Stampin’ Pad (147110), Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad (132708), Jet Black Stāzon Ink Pad (101406), Versamark Pad (102283)

Paper: Night Of Navy (100867), Whisper White (100730), Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper (149612)

Accessories: White Stampin’ Emboss Powder (109132), Embossing Buddy (103083), Heat Tool (129053), Aqua Painters (103954), Stamparatus (146276), Stampin’ Spritzer (126185 ), Stamping Sponges (141337), Bone Folder (102300), SNAIL Adhesive (104332), Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755 ), Small amount of Household Bleach, Fine Paint brush from dollar store, paper towels

Measurements:

  • Night Of Navy: 8 ½” x 5 ½”; scored at 4 ¼”
  • Whisper White: 5 ¼” x 4”
  • Watercolor Paper: 5 ¼” x 4” cut down to finished size of 5 1/8” x 3 7/8

Instructions:

  1. Fold the Night Of Navy card stock in half to create the card base.
  2. Spritz the Watercolor Paper with water to get it nice and wet.
  3. Create a pool of ink in the lid of the Night of Navy Ink Pad.
  4. Using the thick Aqua Painter, pick up some ink and create a wash on the Watercolor Paper starting at the top and working your way down until the paper is covered.
  5. Set aside and let dry. You could use a heat gun at this point to speed up the drying time. I let mine dry overnight.
  6. Place the Watercolor Paper in the Stamparatus.
  7. Since the watercolor paper is rough in texture, you will need to stamp the Eiffel Tower in Jet Black Stāzon multiple time to get a good impression.
  8. Taking the thin Aqua Painter, paint the Eiffel Tower with the pool of Night of Navy Ink that you created from before.
  9. Once that is dry, use the fine paint brush from the dollar store (or an old one that you don’t care if it gets ruined) and “paint” the bleach onto the Eiffel Tower where you think highlights would be. Let it dry.
  10. Next, rub the Embossing Buddy over the watercolor paper and stamp the script from the Parisian Beauty Stamp Set in Versamark. Cover in White Embossing Powder and heat set it with a heat tool. I stamped it 3 times.
  11. Using the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, stamp off on a scrap paper the Fleur de Ly, postage stamp from the Parisian Beauty Stamp Set and the filigree stamp from the Very Versailles Cling Stamp Set and then stamp randomly on the Watercolor Paper.
  12. Using a sponge, sponge Night of Navy ink along the edges and over the embossed script. Wipe the embossed scripted with paper towel to make it stand out.
  13. Adhere with Multipurpose Liquid Glue the Watercolor Paper to the Whisper White card stock.
  14. Adhere the Whisper White piece with SNAIL Adhesive to the Night of Navy card base.

Painted Poppies Thank You Card

My Painted Poppies Thank You Card
My Painted Poppies Thank You Card

Thought I would share with you my Painted Poppies Thank You Card. I love the Peaceful Poppies Suite, especially the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper! This DSP is stunning with its handpainted blooms and watercolor washes that make beautiful backgrounds or focal points for cards, scrapbook pages, and other paper crafts. I particularly love the piece that has the poppies at the top and bottom of the page. This layout allows you to get the most out of it. I knew that I wanted this piece to be my focal point for my card. The bee from the Detailed Bee Dies gives the card a whimsical feel as if he is landing on a poppy. The Peaceful Poppies Sequins give that card a bit of sparkle while mirroring the splatter on the DSP. I hope you like my Painted Poppies Thank You Card!

Paris in Springtime

Paris in Springtime Card
Paris in Springtime Card

When I went to OnStage in November, I received the Parisian Beauty Cling Stamp Set for Prize Patrol. I couldn’t wait to play with it! So, I made my Paris in Springtime card for a swap. I love Paris any time of year, but Paris is the Springtime is magical. The inspiration for this card is this postcard (© Phenicia / Fabrice Moireau) that I bought on one of my trips to Paris.

Paris Postcard
Paris Postcard © Phenicia / Fabrice Moireau

For this card, I wanted to create a window of leaves with the Eiffel Tower poking through like on my postcard. I accomplished this by using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies and the branch from the Sweet Silhouettes Dies. I stamped the Eiffel Tower in Smoky Slate on Watercolor Paper. By squishing my closed Pool Party ink pad, I created a pool of ink in the lid to use for my wash of sky. I love how I mixed the sentiments from the Parisian Beauty Cling Stamp Set and the die cut from the Sweet Silhouettes Dies. A couple of rhinestones and Baker’s Twine are added for embellishments.

This card would be perfect for Valentine’s Day, an anniversary or even a retirement card! The softness of this card definitely reminds me of Paris in the Springtime!

My Cardinal Card

My Cardinal Card using the Toile Christmas Bundle
My Cardinal Card using the Toile Christmas Bundle

Today I am sharing with you my Cardinal Card using the Toile Christmas Bundle. I was asked to present my colouring techniques at Stamp-a-Rama, a local event for 100 participants, in October and this is one of the cards that I made for it. If you are interested, I have included a PDF of my notes from the event at the bottom of this post.

I coloured this beautiful cardinal with the no-lines technique. This technique uses a light colour, like Sahara Sand, to stamp the image. The lighter colour gives you a guideline for your colouring without the harsh black lines and makes the image more real and vibrant. Once stamped, I used a flicking technique with my Cherry Cobbler Light and Dark Blends to create a lot of texture. This technique is achieved by applying ink in quick, single strokes. The key to this inking technique is to flick the marker tip across the page to create a single stroke that goes from dark to light.

  1. Holding the marker loosely, start a downward movement towards the paper
  2. As the marker tip touches the paper, quickly move across the paper, bringing your hand up and away from the paper. This will apply more ink at the beginning of the stroke and less at the end.
  3. You may need to turn the paper to accommodate the angle that is most comfortable for you.
Close-Up of my colouring of the cardinal in My Cardinal Card
Close-Up of my colouring of the cardinal in My Cardinal Card

This technique allows the individual feathers to stand out such as on the tail. Next, I used the Dark Smokey Slate to darken the shadows in strategic locations, such as his tail, his breast and wing, giving the bird depth.

My Cute Wooden Ornaments

My Cute Wooden Ornaments using Snowman Season Photopolymer Stamp Set and the beautiful Nature's Beauty Cling Stamp Set.
My Cute Wooden Ornaments using the Snowman Season and the Nature’s Beauty Stamp Sets.

Today I am sharing with you my cute wooden ornaments that I made using the Snowman Season Photopolymer Stamp Set and the beautiful Nature’s Beauty Cling Stamp Set. I coloured these for a presentation on how to use Blends that I did recently. It’s amazing what you can colour with your Blends besides paper! I have seen Gold Metallic-Edge Ribbon, Silver Metallic-Edge Ribbon, Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Pearl Basic Jewels, Tags & Feathers Elements even china plates! Wouldn’t that be a great idea to make your own Christmas plates! The ornaments would be perfect to give as a Christmas gift or even to dress up a present. The process is a very simple one and you get a wow effect!

More of My Cute Wooden Ornaments using the Snowman Season and the Nature’s Beauty Stamp Sets.

Supplies:

Stamp:  Snowman Season Photopolymer Stamp Set (Photopolymer 150458), Nature’s Beauty Stamp Set (Cling 150528)

Ink: Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad (132708)

Accessories:  Wooden disks (these I bought from a friend, but you can get them Amazon), Very Vanilla/Copper Classic Weave Ribbon (150394), Pool Party Stampin’ Blends Markers Combo Pack (144605), Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends Markers Combo Pack (144599), Cajun Craze Combo Pack Stampin’ Blends (147931), Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends Markers Combo Pack (147273), Real Red Combo Pack Stampin’ Blends (147935), Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends Markers Combo Pack (145058), Stampin’ Blends Color Lifter (144608 ), Something to hang the ornaments (I used some Stampin’ Up! retired jute twine), Drill to make the holes to thread the twine

Measurements:

  • Large Ornament:  3”
  • Small Ornament: 2 ½“
  • Very Vanilla/Copper Classic Weave Ribbon: 12”
  • Jute Twine: 10”

Instructions:

  1. Stamp the image in Memento Black Ink.
  2. Using the Blends colour your images. Note: they do tend to bleed more on the wood. So, be careful to stop before you touch the edges of image. If you do go outside the lines, the Color Lifter works well.
  3. Once you are finished colouring your ornament, thread your twine through a hole that you made and tie into a knot.
  4. Tie the Very Vanilla/Copper Classic Weave Ribbon into a bow on top of the ornament.

My Deck the Halls Card using the Stampin' Up! Brightly Gleaming Suite
My Deck the Halls Card

Today I am sharing with you my Deck the Halls Card that I presented at my Leader’s Demonstrator Meeting this past week. I also made a video on how I made this card that can be found at the bottom of this post. The card uses the beautiful Brightly Gleaming Suite. I couldn’t resist copper embossing the sentiment to match the Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper with its striking copper accents! I had fun colouring with my Blends the holly and berries from the Christmas Gleaming Cling Stamp Set. The Shimmery Crystal Effects on the berries and the rhinestones add a nice touch of sparkle to the card.

Pressed Petals Card

My Pressed Petal Card
My Pressed Petal Card

Today I am sharing with you my beautiful Pressed Petals Card that I made for a friend’s birthday using the Pressed Petals Suite. I love how the Pressed Petals Specialty Designer Series Paper has photographic images of real pressed petals. So, I thought it would be appropriate to have a piece of vellum overlay like you would when you pressed real flowers in a book.

For the beautiful flower, I used the Pressed Petals Specialty Washi Tape to peel-and-stick flower petals together. What a unique and beautiful product! One tip is to use the Embossing Buddy on the back of the petals once you have created your flower. This will alleviate any stickiness that remains from the washi tape. I used the Perennial Essence Floral Centers for the centre of my flower, but I wanted it to match the centres of the flowers on the DSP. So, I dabbed it onto my Early Espresso Ink Pad to make it dark brown before adding it to my flower. A Mossy Meadow leaf die cut from the Wild Rose Dies completes the flower.

The Assembly of my Flower for my Pressed Petal Card
The Assembly of my Flower for my Pressed Petal Card

I couldn’t resist making a double bow with the Mossy Meadow Linen Thread from the Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo Pack and some Linen Thread to string a leaf from the Bird Ballad Trinkets. A strip of the other washi tape from the Pressed Petals Specialty Washi Tape and a piece of Very Vanilla Scalloped Lace Trim line the top of the card. A scattering of pearls adds a nice finishing touch!
