My Faux-Step Hello Card

My Faux-Step Hello Card - a fun fold card with flowers on it in a frame
My Faux-Step Hello Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing my Faux-Step Hello Card using elements from the Beautiful Gallery Suite Collection by Stampin’ Up! I have included a downloadable Faux Centre-Step Template at the end of this post that has all the measurements on it.

The Details of My Faux-Step Hello Card

This card was for a swap and since I needed several cards, I had to use different pieces of DSP. Luckily, this paper pack had many beautiful pieces from which to choose. I was able to get two cards from each sheet of DSP.

Two Versions of Card
Two Versions of Card

For my card, I thought a faux-step card would suit the frame from the Gallery Blooms Dies make a pretty focal point almost like a framed piece of art! To make the Basic Beige frame fit onto the easel, I had to trim a little off the top and bottom, but it was so small that it was hardly noticeable. A strip of the Country Woods Designer Series Paper with a Basic Beige mat helped to ground my focal point.

Side View of Card

Next, I used the Damask Designs Embossing Folder to emboss the Basic White piece that ran the length of the card behind the easel. Loved the subtleness of the design without taking away from the focal point! This was matted with Basic Beige card stock to match the frame.

Version 2 of Card
Version 2 of Card

For the sentiment, I stamped it in Mossy Meadow on Basic White card stock and die cut it with the smallest banner from the Stylish Shaped Dies. Then, I tucked in the stamped Basic Beige floral cluster behind the sentiment.

As a finishing touch to my card, I added a scattering of Pressed Flower Motifs to the embossed inside layer and on the easel of my card.

Supplies:

Bundle: Beautiful Motifs Bundle (165206)

Ink: Mossy Meadow (147111), Basic Beige (163806)

Hello Sweet Friend Card

Hello Sweet Friend Card - a card with a rabbit and butterfly sitting on a mushroom
Hello Sweet Friend Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing my Hello Sweet Friend Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Conie Fong Art & Design using the Hello Little Friend Bundle. This Bundle includes 5 images:

  • Title 1: Hello Little Friend JPG format only
  • Titles 2, 3: Mushrooms JPG/PNG format
  • Titles 4, 5: Sentiment: Hello Sweet Friend PNG/JPG format

The Details of My Hello Sweet Friend Card

I love this sweet image by Conie Fong and had fun colouring it with my Copic markers. Then, I added Wink of Stella to the butterfly wings to make them shimmer.

Since the scene was so large, I decided to use it for most of my card front with only a few die cuts as accents. So, I had the Mini Fanciful Flourish overlapping my main focal point as if nature is cradling the scene. A vellum die cut butterfly was the other accent that I added to mirror the butterfly in the scene.

For my papers, I went with some DSP from my stash that had a mushroom theme. Perfect for my scene.

The finishing touch was to add some Red Rhinestones for sparkle.

My Thankful Hydrangea Card

My Thankful Hydrangea Card - a card with a flower on it
My Thankful Hydrangea Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing my My Thankful Hydrangea Card using the Lovely Garden Suite Collection which includes the Thankful Garden Bundle, Lovely Garden Designer Series Paper, Starburst Sequins, and Fresh Freesia Faux Velvet Ribbon by Stampin’ Up! I made this pretty split panel card for a swap.

The Details of My My Thankful Hydrangea Card

The Thankful Garden Bundle comes with masks for the flowers, and I have been wanting to give them a try! So, I used my Blending Brushes and Blueberry Bushel Ink to brush ink onto the different masks of the petals. I used a light touch with the first mask and gradually added more ink and pressure as I went creating lots of dimension. I also, did this with Garden Green for the leaves.

Once I had my flower coloured, I made a couple of extras of the petals and die cut/fussy cut some out which I then added to the top of the flower with dimensionals. Where there was white showing on these extra die cut petals, I brushed ink to help blend them in.

Now, it was time to design my card. Since I decided on a split panel card, I used the Eyelet 3D Embossing Folder on the front 2 panels to give it interest without taking away from the flower. Next, I added my DSP strip to the inside of my card allowing it to peek out through the gap.

I used the second largest Nested Essentials Die and die cut the DSP for a backdrop to my flower. This also was my anchor between the two front panels. The flower on top also gave this panel extra stability.

For the sentiment, I heat embossed it in white on a scrap of Blueberry Bushel and just trimmed it down with my paper snips to fit.

As a finishing touch to my card, I added some Starburst Sequins.

Supplies:

Stamps/Bundles/Dies: Thankful Garden Stamp Set (165534), Nested Essentials Dies (161597)

Inks: VersaMark Ink (102283), Blueberry Bushel Classic Stampin’ Pad (147138), Garden Green Classic Stampin’ Pad (147089)

Paper: Blueberry Bushel (146968), Basic White (166780), Lovely Garden Designer Series Paper (165524)

My Corny Hello Card

My Corny Hello Card - a card with popcorn on it saying Hello
My Corny Hello Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Corny Hello Card using the Poppin’ By Bundle which includes the Poppin’ By Stamp Set and Poppin’ By Dies by Stampin’ Up! I had so much fun making a card with this Bundle a while back, that I decided to make this second card. If you are interested in seeing my other card, I will post it at the end as well.

The Details of My Corny Hello Card

For my card, I thought that the Full of Life Designer Series Paper with its bright colour burst wheel would be perfect for my card! It would lead the eye to the popcorn that is popping out of the focal point. So fun! I added a Basic Black mat to my DSP to tie in the sentiment and help contain the explosion of colour. Lol! This DSP is listed in the Last Chance Products and it’s on sale! So, get it while you can!

Next, I decided to use a Granny Apple Green banner from the Birthday Celebration Dies to anchor my focal point. From this, I had my popcorn and stars from the Loose Shaker Elements bursting out!

After I die cut the popcorn, I used a Blending Brush to add ink to the edges to give them dimension. Then, I used my Wink of Stella Brush to splatter some Crushed Curry Ink on them as well. Love the shimmer it added!

For the sentiment, I heat embossed it in white on a scrap of Basic Black. The POP letters were die cut using the Alphabet à la Mode Dies in Crushed Curry and placed on my banner jumbled to look like it was being jostled by the popcorn.

As a finishing touch to my card, I added some Holographic Resin Dots.

Supplies:

Stamps/Bundles/Dies: Poppin’ By Bundle (165489), Birthday Celebration Dies (164598), Alphabet à la Mode Dies (160750)

Inks: VersaMark Ink (102283), Crushed Curry Classic Stampin’ Pad (147087)

Paper: Crushed Curry (131199), Basic Black (121045), Basic White (166780), Granny Apple Green (146990), Full of Life 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper (163357)

Accessories: Small Blending Brushes (160518), Wink of Stella Glitter Brush (141897), Basics Embossing Powder (165679), Heat Tool (129053), Embossing Additions Tool Kit (159971), Holographic Resin Dots (165598), Loose Shaker Elements (165268), Stampin’ Paper Trimmer (152392), Bone Folder (102300), Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430), Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (144108), Stampin’ Seal (152813), Mini Glue Dots (103683), Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755)

The Details of My Panda Lotus Card

For my card, I went looking to see what I had in my stash that would fit a lotus flower and low and behold, I found an old Paper Pumpkin Kit that I didn’t finish! Lol

But first, I coloured my image with my Copic markers and decided to add a bright lotus flower to make the image pop from the background.

Next, I heat embossed in white the sentiment and added a Bubble Bath mat to make it stand out.

The Kit came with some clear resin dots that I added to my lily pad and around my focal point.

The finishing touch was to add some Dragonfly Trinkets. Perfect for a lily pond!

My Christmas Angel Card

My Christmas Angel Card - a Christmas card with an angel holding a globe
My Christmas Angel Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing My Christmas Angel Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Conie Fong Art & Design using the beautiful Angel of Christmas Stars

The Details of My Christmas Angel Card

For my card, I thought a shabby chic look would suit such a traditional stamp! So, I coloured her with my Copic markers in reds and greens and brushed my Vintage Photo Ink along the edges to give it an old-world look.

Once that was done, I used my Gold Gelly Roll Pen on the poinsettia centres and the trim on her dress. Next, I used Glossy Accents on the globe to give it a glass look. Finally, I added some glitter to her wings since all angels should have ethereal looking wings!

I love the beautiful Mintay papers especially the one with the poinsettias to match the angel’s poinsettias. I brushed Vintage Photo Ink onto the Mintay papers to give them the old-world look as well. Next, I tucked in a gold foil die-cut poinsettia cluster off to one side of my focal point to tie in my gold accents.

For the sentiment, I printed out one of the many Christian sentiments from Volume 17 of Sassy’s Cards and Gifts. I then used my laminator to gold foil it and punched it out. Next, I brushed more Vintage Photo Ink to it to give it an old-world look. I then matted it with a Real Red die-cut stitched circle.

To balance the sentiment, I added on the opposite side, a corner sprig from the Mintay die-cuts that matched my paper. On top of that, I added a beautiful paper poinsettia with golden accents to tie in the angel’s poinsettias.

The finishing touch was to add some red rhinestones and gold glimmer dots around the sentiment for sparkle.

My Pop-Up Record Card

My Pop-Up Record Card - a birthday card with records on it
My Pop-Up Record Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Pop-Up Record Card using the retired For the Record Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up!

The Details of My Pop-Up Record Card

This card was for a boy who was turning 17 and loves listening to his records. So, I thought a fun pop-up record player card would be perfect for him! To create my card, I used several retired Stampin’ Up! products that I had in my stash, but it was worth it!

Front of My Card

For the front, I thought the Turtle-y Cute Designer Series Paper would be perfect for my card with the musical notes and bright primary colours. It would also help to balance the darkness of the records.

Close Up of Records on Front of Card
Close Up of Front of Card

I decided to heat emboss in black the records to give the grooves texture. I made 5 records with three on the front and two on the inside. To match the colours in the DSP, I used matching card stock for the labels of the records along with silver foil. Next, I used Black Matte Dots for the centres of my records. I tried to add a hole with the Take You Pick Tool but found it didn’t look right. So, I added the Dots instead. Once I had my records in place, I used my Paper Snips to cut off the overhanging edges.

The sentiments were heat embossed in white and the Real Red one was die cut out while the Basic Black one was cut on an angle with my Paper Snips.

A scattering of Holographic Resin Dots added to the kitschy feel of my card.

Inside of My Card

For the inside of my card, I used the same DSP especially with the turtles playing instruments. You can just see them peeking out behind the different elements. So fun!

Close Up of Top of Inside Card and Record in Sleeve

For the top part of my card, I used one of my embossed records and tucked it into a vellum sleeve just like you get in a record jacket.

For the bottom part of my card, I decided to create a pop-up record player. To create the top of the record player, I followed along on a video by C & C Designs as she made it. Here is a link to her video.

Since I wanted it to be on the inside of my card, I created a box pop-up mechanism with the Country Woods Designer Series Paper and added the different parts to it. I love that by using brads the record turned, and the record arm moved!

My Pleated Wedding Card

My Pleated Wedding Card - a wedding card with 3 layers
My Pleated Wedding Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Pleated Wedding Card using elements from the Beautiful Gallery Suite Collection by Stampin’ Up! I was asked by my team leaders to present two cards at a virtual play date. One was a simple card and then a stepped-up version. Last week I shared my simplified card and this week I’m sharing my stepped-up version.

The Details of My Pleated Wedding Card

For my stepped-up card, I decided to create a fun fold called a pleat creating a layered card that is sure to Wow! I have included my Pleated Card Template that you can download at the end of this post.

The Beautiful Gallery Suite Collection is perfect for wedding cards! So, I used the remaining piece of DSP from my simplified version to create this card. To step up on the front panel, I tucked behind my sentiment a Mossy Meadow spring of greenery and a Petal Pink floral element.

Side View of Card

For the sentiment, I stamped it in Mossy Meadow on Very Vanilla card stock and then used a strip of DSP to mat it. I added a simple knot of the Petal Pink Scalloped Ribbon which I thought pulled the pink tones from the flowers and matched the Petal Pink card stock.

Next, for the middle panel, I used the Damask Designs Embossing Folder to emboss the Very Vanilla piece which added interest to it. Such a beautiful design!

For the back panel, I stamped the inside sentiment in Mossy Meadow and then used one of the decorative motif designs to add interest.

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Simple Wedding Card using elements from the Beautiful Gallery Suite Collection by Stampin’ Up! I was asked by my team leaders to present two cards at a virtual play date. One was a simple card and then a stepped-up version. So, today, I am sharing my simplified card. My stepped-up version is at the end of this post.

The Details of My Simple Wedding Card

We were asked to pick a theme for our cards, and I went with wedding since it is the season! Plus, we have a wedding coming up.

The Beautiful Gallery Suite Collection is perfect for wedding cards! I love the DSP and what better way to showcase it, then using it to cover the front of a simplified card! So, I used half a sheet of the floral DSP. Since it did not cover the whole inside flap, I used a panel of Mossy Meadow to hide the DSP edge on the inside to make it look finished.

True North Canada Card

True North Canada Card - a Happy Canada Day Card with a girl, beaver and boy on it.
True North Canada Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Happy Canada Day! It’s Laurie here to share my True North Canada Card using the True North Strong & Free Stamp Set by Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps.

The Details of My True North Canada Card

For my card, I had a lot of fun colouring with my Copic Markers the beaver, the leaves and these cuties. In fact, I coloured the girl and boy to match my hubby and me! Once that was done, I cut them out with my Brother Scan n’ Cut.

The O Canada 2 papers by PhotoPlay were perfect for my Canadian themed card! They even had matching ephemera that I used for the wording. This made making my card a breeze!

I added Wink of Stella to all the maple leaves including their shirts to make them shimmer. I also added Black Gelly Roll Pen to the beaver’s nose.

For embellishments, I added some red rhinestones to tie in my colour scheme.

My Sending Hugs Card

My Sending Hugs Card - a card with a koala holding onto a tree
My Sending Hugs Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing My Sending Hugs Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Conie Fong Art & Design using Eucalyptus Tree Koala and Sentiment Bundle. Isn’t he just the cutest? This listing includes a total of 4 images:

  • Eucalyptus Tree Koala Right JPG format only
  • Eucalyptus Tree Koala Left JPG format only
  • Sending Hugs Sentiment JPG/PNG format

The Details of My Sending Hugs Card

First, I coloured this cutie with my Copic Markers and added Wink of Stella to the flower petals. I decided to use a W blend to give him a warm life-like colour.

Once that was done, I decided to create a faux-fun fold! Lol! I knew that I wanted to use my Palm Leaf Frame Die by Paper Rose, but my koala would have covered it almost completely. So, instead of centering him on the card, I turned the card and set him off to one side which meant he poked up above the card base. This placement gave my card a faux-step card look.

Next, I die cut the Tropical Escape DSP with the Palm Leaf Frame to add interest to it. Then, I layered a pink piece of DSP behind it to match the pink in the flowers. The pink flowers were cut from the DSP as well using the matching Tropical Dies.

The sentiment was die cut out with a stitched flag die and I layered a paper palm leaf and the pink flowers to match my DSP. To add interest to my palm leaf stem, I used a wooden skewer from my kitchen and wrapped it around to make it curl. Another palm leaf was tucked under my focal point.

The finishing touch was to add some rhinestones to the flower centres and card base for sparkle.

My Summer Sailing Card

My Summer Sailing Card - a card with Lighthouse and Sailboat on it
My Summer Sailing Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! For the First Day of Summer, I am sharing My Summer Sailing Card using the Framed Scenes Bundle and the Sunrise Sailing Bundle by Stampin’ Up!

I was honoured to be asked to present my colouring techniques using Stampin’ Blends to 24 demonstrators at a Stampin’ Up! Play Date that was organized this past weekend by my team leaders. They asked me to demonstrate colouring a scene with Stampin’ Blends that could be used as a Father’s Day card and the Framed Scenes Bundle was perfect for this! I taught things like underpainting, tip-to-tip, colouring die cuts and so much more!

My card was used as my swap for the event, but not everyone participated in the swap. So, I created some simple bookmarks for the others so that they could explore using the Blends.

The Details of My Summer Sailing Card

For my card, I thought it would be fun to use a z-fold so that I could show off the gorgeous sailboat on the Sunrise Sailing Hybrid Embossing Folder.

I knew that I wanted the full sailboat to be on the inside of my card. So, I cut the Balmy Blue card stock and embossed it twice. Once so that the sailboat was centred on one piece of card stock. The second piece of card stock was embossed on the left side of the embossing folder parallel to where the first one was embossed…this allowed for a continuation of the waves from front to back of the card. There was a small amount of boat showing on the front piece, but the focal point covered it.

Top of Card
Top of Z-Fold Card

For my focal point, I placed it off centre to the left of the card so that the embossed boat can be seen peeking out from the inside layer. The Country Woods DSP created a perfect wooden frame around my colouring.

The sentiment was embossed in white and then the end was snipped at an angle.

The small sailboat and the trio of birds were added to the card to create interest and lead the eye inside the card. The finishing touch was three Riverside Irregular Pearls with one on the front and two on the inside panel.

My Colouring Techniques/Tips for My Summer Sailing Card

Underpainting

Underpainting is where a third colour is added to create extra depth especially in the shadows. For my colouring, I used Light Smoky Slate along the edges of the lighthouse where the shadows would be the darkest. Once I laid that colour down, I used the Dark Real Red to go over the Smoky Slate and extend it a little bit further into the highlight. Then, I added the Light Real Red and blended it into the dark. If your highlight is too dark, you can use the Color Lifter to lighten the highlight colour.

Tip-To-Tip

Tip-to-tip is where you take two colours that are different and apply one tip of the marker to the other one to transfer some colour.

For the reflection in the water, I used the Colour Lifter and rubbed it against the Dark Real Red marker to pick up a small amount of red. When I first applied the Color Lifter with the red to my image, it was the darkest. So, I used that for the shadows along the water edge and the edges of the lighthouse reflection. As I coloured, the red was used up until it was colourless. This created a highlight in the water to mirror the highlight in the lighthouse. Once, that was done, I just scribbled off on a piece of scrap paper to remove any red from the Color Lifter.

Colouring Die Cuts

One thing that most people don’t think about is colouring your die cuts with Stampin’ Blends to create dimension. For the sail of the boat, I used Light Smoky Slate and my Color Lifter. I coloured Light Smoky Slate triangles at the bottom of the sails to make them look like they are full. Then, I extended a line up the mast from the bottom to the top. Once that was done, I used my Color Lifter to soften the edges along the centre of the sail pushing the ink towards the lines (shadows) that I added.

Adding Texture to Leaves

For my trees, I decided to add texture with dots. First, I coloured the leaves in Light Old Olive and let it dry. It needed it to dry so that the dark would not bleed when added. Then, I used my Dark Old Olive and added random dots to the leaves making sure that where there were shadows, I concentrated my dots. At this point, the dots may look strange, like a polka dotted tree lol, but by going over them with the Light Old Olive next, it blended the edges of the Dark creating texture and dimension.

Blending from Colour to White

The final technique that I taught was how to blend from colour to white such as for the sky. I used Light Balmy Blue and edged my scene where the sky was on the image. Then, I used a flicking motion of my Light Balmy Blue marker from this line out to the white. This flicking allowed the marker to blend easier than if there was a solid line. Once that was done, I used my Colour Lifter and used circular motions along the edge where the blue ended, and the white began. This softened that edge creating a transition from colour to white.

My Kitty Birthday Card

My Kitty Birthday Card - a birthday card with a cat floating with balloons
My Kitty Birthday Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing My Kitty Birthday Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Conie Fong Art & Design using the cute Cat With Balloons. I coloured this image twice a while back and I finally made a card for him! Lol! I will post the other card that I made using this image at the end of this post.

The Details of My Kitty Birthday Card

For my card, I decided to use the Everyday Skies Designer Series Paper with the Everyday Arches Dies by Stampin’ Up! for my sky. But first I coloured this cutie with my Copic markers. I added Wink of Stella to the balloons to make them shimmer.

Next, I added dimension with layers of stitched clouds behind my arched focal point on the orange background piece. I even added more clouds on my focal point behind the Kittie.

The sentiment was die cut out with a stitched flag die to match the stitching on the arches.

The final touch was to add some Adhesive-Backed Birds to my scene and another one to the orange DSP.

My Note of Thanks Card

My Note of Thanks Card - a floral thank you card
My Note of Thanks Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Note of Thanks Card using the Botanical Textures Suite Collection by Stampin’ Up! I decided to create an elegant grayscale card using the Textured Notes Dies and the Botanical Textures Designer Series Paper for my inspiration.

The Details of My Notes of Thanks Card

My card was for a swap, and I thought a z-fold card would create a fun element with the rectangle dies from the Textured Notes Dies that I layered to create my focal point.

Top of card
Top of Z-Fold

First, I stamped the leaves from the Textured Noted Stamp Set in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Basic White while keeping in mind the placement of my other elements. I love the different textures of the Distinktive leaves peek out from behind the sentiment!

Next, I heat embossed in white the sentiment and die cut it out with the long thin die from the Textured Notes Dies. I also used this die to die cut another strip of DSP that I layered behind the sentiment.

Once that was done, I used my 1-7/8” punch on a leaf motif from the DSP to match my stamped leaves. I matted this with a 2”” punched Basic Black card stock piece.

To finish my focal point, I layered the different die cut rectangles that matched my colour scheme.

For the card base, I used another leaf motif to match my other leaves for the front of the card. Then, I used the Mini Corrugated 3D Embossing Folder for the inside Basic White piece. I loved how it added interest when the card front is closed, but the recipient would be surprised that it completed the inside.

Inside of Card
Inside of Card

In order to have a place for the message, I added another Basic White die cut piece to the smaller panel on the inside.

As a finishing touch to my card, I added some Neutral Matte Dots in black and white to my card front on the stamped piece and to the circle leave DSP.

My Mermazing Day Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing My Mermazing Day Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Conie Fong Art & Design using the Rosealea Mermaid And Sentiment Bundle. This listing includes a total of 12 images in JPG and PNG format:

  • Title 1 & 2: Rosealea Mermaid Facing Left JPG/PNG

The Details of My Mermazing Day Card

For my card, I decided to go out of my comfort zone and colour with my Copic markers Rosealea in oranges. I don’t usually use orange in my colouring. But since there was a lot going on in the background, I thought it would make her pop from my shaker card and match the orange fish in the background DSP.

The Waves Die by Spellbinders was a new purchase, and it went perfectly with my mermaid theme!  Since the die took up the whole card front with lots of peek through holes, I decided to create a shaker card.

To create my focal point, I added behind Rosealea gold foil coral and some vellum seaweed. Rosealea and the seaweed helped lead your eye up to the sentiment.

Next, I adhered a scattering of gold shell sequins from the Sea Sequins to the front of my card, along with some blue sequins from the Stardust Sequins to tie in my colour scheme.

Finally, to add some sparkle, I used Clear Wink of Stella on her tail and Glossy Accents on the pearls in her hair.
