My Penguin Wonderland Card

My Penguin Card
My Penguin Wonderland Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Penguin Wonderland Card using the Penguin Place Bundle which includes the Penguin Place Stamp Set and the Penguin Builder Punch by Stampin’ Up! Isn’t this penguin just the cutest!

For my card, I decided that I wanted to use the punch to create my penguin rather than stamp and punch him out. This allowed me to use Basic Black to make him pop off the card. However, I did stamp his eyes and beak from the stamp set. I also knew that I wanted to use the Giving Gifts Dies in relation to the snowflakes on the Peaceful Place Designer Series Paper. This paper is gorgeous with its specialty silver foil!

Since the Giving Gifts Dies create a fun peek-through effect only and are to be use in correlation to other dies, I used the Stitched Rectangles Dies with them to create my winter wonderland. I used the Snowy White Velvet Sheets to add a soft wintery texture to my card. Here is a tip if you need to make the same card multiple times such as for Christmas cards. Position the dies how you want them to cut and then use washi tape to keep them that position.

Tip
Tip for Die Cutting Multiple Times

To continue my wintery wonderland, I stamped snowflakes in Balmy Blue on opposite corners of the Balmy Blue mat. The DSP was cut using the Stitched Rectangles Dies as well. To tie in the silvery accents on the DSP, I die cut a single snowflake from the Silver Foil Specialty Pack using the snowflake in the Giving Gifts Dies. The finishing touch was three Subtle Shimmer Sequins placed on the snowflakes from the Giving Gifts Dies.

My Evil Queen Card

My Design Team Card
My Evil Queen Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing My Evil Queen Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Paper Nest Dolls using the new release Evil Queen digital stamp. She is also available as a rubber stamp here. She just makes the cutest Halloween card!

For my stamp, I coloured the Evil Queen with my Copic Markers. I made her sleeves one shade lighter since I noticed in the Disney Show White movie that they are lighter. I then “painted” the Glow Drops onto her apple where the green is showing. Love that when you turn out the lights the poison glows! Next, I added some highlights with my White Gelly Roll Pen on the crown and jewels which I followed up with Glossy accents to make them shiny.

Video of The Nuvo Glow Drops in Action

For my card, I had these cool overlay acetates leftover from Halloween last year and thought having the poison paper show through it was a neat effect! Plus, the picture frame with the skeleton reminded me of her Magic Mirror! The spider web doily was in my stash, and I thought it was perfect way to frame her! The swirling rhinestones remind me of a magic spell being cast, but I wanted them red not clear. Easy enough to colour them with my R37 Copic Marker. To carry on the glowing theme, I added some dots with my Nuvo Glow Drops amongst the red rhinestones and on the web.

Lazy Days of Summer Card

My Lazy Days of Summer Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing my Lazy Days of Summer Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Paper Nest Dolls using the digital stamp Surfer Emma. When you buy her, you get 2 digital stamps for the price of 1! Surfer Emma with and without sunglasses.

I can’t believe that summer is almost over! Emma and I are going to miss those lazy days of summer sunshine!

For my card, I had fun colouring Emma with my Copic markers. I created a summer vignette for my cutie with the surfer van and a palm tree sticker poking out from the circle. The surfer van was a svg file that I downloaded and cut out on my Silhouette Cameo machine. The svg file comes as a box card, but I only wanted the van. Easy enough to separate the file into the pieces that I needed. It was so fun creating the van to match my coloured image with the hot pink. Who wouldn’t love to drive a hot pink surfer van!

Since it’s a beach card, of course, I needed water, sand, and sun! So, my paper was perfect for two of those elements! The sun and sunshine die cuts completed the other element. I love the sentiment “The lazy days of summer” which sum up my card perfectly and matches the purple colour of her bathing suit!

My Great Escape Card

My Stampin' Up! Card
My Great Escape Card

Hello Crafty Friends! Laurie here again! I am sharing My Great Escape Card using the Counting Sheep Stamp Set and matching Sheep Dies by Stampin’ Up! You can get both for free with a qualifying order during Sale-A-Bration. I am a big fan of Shaun the Sheep and love watching all the antic that he gets up to with the other sheep at the farm! The ewe on the right reminds me of him as she orchestrates a breakout from the farmer’s field. Lol!

My Colouring Techniques

For my card, I used several techniques to colour my sheep so that they looked fluffy. I stamped the sheep in Smokey Slate Classic Ink on Basic White card stock. This allowed me to colour with the no-line technique which created a softer finished image without the harsh black lines with Memento Ink. Once the colouring was finished, the lines would fade in with the dots.

The second techniques I used was dots for their wool. I used the Dark Smokey Slate Stampin’ Blend in the shadows. So, along the edges where the stamped Smokey Slate ink was, where the artist indicated fluffiness in the wool and anywhere I thought a shadow would show up.

Next, I used the Light Smokey Slate Stampin’ Blend to add to the shadow areas and extend my dots further into the image from the shadows. I added a few random dots to break up the white areas in the centre of the wool.

Finally, I used my Stampin’ Blends Color Lifter and lightly brushed over all the dots to soften them a little bit. For the face and legs, I used the Smooth colouring technique. For more information on these techniques and others, I have included links on how to use your Stampin’ Blends at the end of this post.

The Details of my Card

I decided that I needed a slimline card to fit my scene so that I could include all three sheep in the great escape. Since the Basic Border Dies that I used were not long enough for a slimline card, I had to create layers to fill my scene. With lots of dimensionals, I was able to create a hilly pastureland with a cloud filled sky. For my pastureland I used two different card stocks, Pear Pizzaz and Old Olive, to add dimension to my scene. I added an 8 ½” strip of Old Olive at the base of my card on top of all the hills to hide all the uneven pieces. The In Good Taste DSP was perfect for my wooden fences.

Inks: Smoky Slate Classic Stampin’ Pad (147113)

My Summer Dreams Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I can’t believe that Summer is almost over! So, in the hopes of making the summer last a little bit longer, I am sharing My Summer Dreams Card as my Design Team Card for Conie Fong Art & Design. My card is using the sweet Summer Dreams. This image would be perfect for so many occasions like Birthday, Mother’s Day, Thinking of You, Wedding to name just a few!

Details of My Card

For my card, I coloured this sweet image with my Copic markers to match the beautiful Botanical Tea paper by Graphic 45. I had a lot of fun colouring all those waves and curls in her hair and look at those pleats! Omgoodness! Such colouring fun!

I have been wanting for a while to use the Stitched Greenery Dies by Stampin’ Up! and thought that they would make a perfect subtle mat for my focal point. I die cut the Botanical Tea paper and my coloured image with the Labels Seventeen in two consecutive layering dies. I used my Blending Brush to add some Vintage Photo ink to the edges of all my paper and die cuts. Next, I turn the larger one on its side and punched two holes in it at one end and threaded ribbon through the holes for an unexpected touch.

To add to the botanical theme, I added a leaf trinket so that it looks like it is attached to the ribbon. I found a paper flower that matched my colouring perfectly. To add some matching blue embellishments, I coloured rhinestones with my B34 Copic markers and scattered them here and there.

My Twisty Thank You Card

My Card Front
My Twisty Thank You Card

Hello Crafty Friends! I am excited to share My Twisty Thank You Card that I made using the beautiful Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper by Stampin’ Up! I made a similar card at a retreat and thought that it would be a perfect way to showcase this gorgeous DSP while providing an interactive fun fold!

Don’t you just love that when you open the card you get the first set of sentiments and then you keep opening and the sentiments flip to see the other side of them. When the card is fully open, you get all three sentiments displayed.

My Twisty Thank You Card in Action

The Details of My Card

For my card, I used the Hand-Penned Petals Bundle which includes the Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set and the matching Penned Flowers Dies by Stampin’ Up! Since I needed 3 sentiments that went together, I used the Dragonfly Garden Stamp Set as well. I have included my Twisty Card Template that you can download at the end of this post.

The Front of My Card

I stamped the colours of Highland Heather, Mint Macaron, Daffodil Delight and Blushing Bride for my flowers which matched the DSP and die cut them out with the matching dies. The Daffodil Delight piece of DSP helped to give a pop of colour to draw the eyes to the stamped flowers. I die cut the tag from the DSP as well. Love the Tailor Made Tags! They are so versatile! For my ribbon, I wanted it to match the colours of my card. So, I used my Dark Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend to colour the ribbon. This is a great way to add matching accents to your card!

Tip for using Markers on Ribbon
Tip for Colouring Ribbon with Stampin’ Blends

I found that the DSP is quite busy. So, to make my focal point stand out, I added a Basic White scallop cut piece underneath it to help ground it. A couple of Highland Heather pearls and a Mint Macaron Genial Gem tie in the colours of my card.

Inside of My Card

For the inside of my card, I added two of the neutral simple patterns to the inside folds and then attached the sentiment. I made sure that as you flip it, the sentiments made sense: “For a true friend” “You are an inspiration” Thank you for your kindness”. I added some DSP to the back of the sentiment pieces since you see the backs as they flip. Tip: adhere top and bottom sentiment pieces and then the middle to get even placement between the pieces.

My Mandalorian Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I was honoured to have been asked to present this card and my colouring for it at the Rebels and Wizards Online Event for Paper Nest Dolls that was this past weekend. My Mandalorian Card is using Rebel Hero and the new release Rebel Baby by Paper Nest Dolls and the Magic Iris Dies by Lawn Fawn. I have included a PDF with step by step instructions on how to build the Magic Iris at the end of this post.

I just love Baby Yoda in the Mandalorian TV series. He is soooo cute! I even have a Baby Yoda stuffy that gets into all kinds of mischief. Lol! So, when I saw the new Rebel Baby digital stamp, I just had to make a card with him! My card was inspired by the last episode of season two where Luke comes to rescue Baby Yoda and his friends. I coloured Luke in dark clothes with a green light saver (or life saver as my Baby Yoda calls it! Lol!) as he appeared in this episode. The Rebel Baby is hidden behind the “door” and is revealed by the Magic Iris mechanism when the Jedi Hero opens it.

Don’t you just love the digital paper that I used with the Mandalorian helmets and the original Star Wars logo! They were perfect for my card and were free from HaleGrafix. I sponged some Black Soot to the edges of it to give my card a gritty feel. I couple of star embellishments was all this card needed to finish it off.

My Christmas Besties Card

My Design Team Card
My Christmas Besties Design Team Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! One last Christmas in July card before July is over! I am sharing my Slimline Interactive Christmas Besties Card as my Design Team Card for Conie Fong Art & Design. My card is using Christmas Besties digital stamp which comes with 3 stamps including Snowy the Penguin – Christmas Besties with tree, without tree and without background. I used Snowy the Penguin – Christmas Besties with tree for my card.

Details of My Card

For my card, I coloured Snowy Penguin and his sweet friend with my Copic markers. I knew that I wanted to create a slimline card with the aurora borealis filling the night sky above these cuties. One of these days, I hope to see the aurora borealis in person! It is on my Bucket List of things to do.

For my aurora borealis, I created a mask to go over my colouring using Tombow Liquid Glue. I printed out an extra image on copy paper. Once I fussy cut out the image including the star and the Christmas baubles, I applied Tombow to the back of them and let it dry.

Creating a Mask with Tombow Liquid Glue
Creating a Mask with Tombow Liquid Glue

How to Create the Sky

For my colours of the aurora borealis, I used my Blending Brushes and the Stampin’ Up! Inks of Bermuda Bay, Rich Razzleberry and Night of Navy with Crushed Curry for the glow of the star on their tree. While the mask was still in place, I splattered Frost White All-Purpose Ink with my Splatter Brush all over the panel.

Getting Ready to Create Aurora Borealis Sky

Another reason why I went with a slimline card is that I wanted to make it interactive and add lights. The Ez-Lights from Pear Blossom Press come with 3 lights and the mechanism to make them work. I adhered with scotch tape one behind the star and the other two on either side of the sentiment. Then I used a ton of black dimensionals that were doubled high so that they cleared the mechanism.

Light Placement on Back of Card

To finish off my card, my sentiment was die cut from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper along with the die cut star and punched stars. I used Glossy Accents on the Christmas Baubles and Star Dust Stickles on the star, pompoms, and snow.

This DSP has the sweetest critters all over it and coordinates with the Penguin Builder Punch that will be in the new Mini Catalogue starting on August 3, 2021.

Card #1
Card #1 Using the Penguin Playmates 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper

For my cards, I created one card and I used the leftover pieces to create my second card. For the first card, I decided that I wanted the cute penguins popping out of the circular frames from the Picture This Dies with different backgrounds. So, I fussy cut them from the DSP. Then, I stamped the snowflakes that come with the Penguin Place Photopolymer Stamp Set in Balmy Blue on a piece of Balmy Blue card stock. Once done, I then die cut it and two different pieces of the Penguin Playmates DSP. One had pink snowflakes and the other had green trees on one side and the critters on the other. This allowed me to mix and match pieces for the circles.

My Second Card
Card #2 Using the Penguin Playmates 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper

The embellishments that I used are also from the upcoming Mini Catalogue. They included the Subtle Shimmer Sequins and the beautiful iridescent Wonderful Snowflakes. Don’t you just love how delicate are the Wonderful Snowflakes! I wanted some smaller snowflakes to scatter on my cards. So, I ended up using the snowflake die from the Giving Gifts Dies.

Molly’s Christmas in July Card

My Design Team Card
Molly’s Christmas in July Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing Molly’s Christmas in July Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Conie Fong Art & Design. My card is using Molly’s Christmas Digital Stamp which comes with 3 stamps including Molly without dog, Molly with short ear dog and Molly with long ear dog. I used the short eared dog for my card.

Detail of My Card

For my card, I coloured Molly with her wagon of Christmas goodies and her sweet puppy with my Copic markers. Since the stamp seemed to have a country vibe, I decided to create a homey feel to my card. I brushed Vintage Photo Distress Ink on the edges and corners of my coloured image. The papers from Simple Stories really added to the country feel with the quilt design and shabby look.

I gave some dimension to the poinsettia die by cutting out the poinsettia 3 times. Once for the green base with the holly and twice in the red velvet. I snipped the unwanted pieces of red velvet away from my poinsettia. Then, I glued together the red velvet flowers and added some Metallic Pearls before I popped it up to overlap my focal point. I positioned the red poinsettia so that the green poinsettia below peeked out looking like the green leaves before they turn red. Since I die cut the poinsettia in the red velvet, I had the red berries left over to place in amongst the green holly leaves to add a bit of colour.

I knew that I wanted to use the wooden tree embellishment that I had in my stash but decided that it needed more to it. So, I created a tag with the Simple Stories paper that tied in my colours perfectly. However, the tag was too long. So, I die cut it once and then moving the die up and cut it again to create a smaller die. The red bow was fashioned from some fiber blends that I had in my stash. Star Dust Stickles, Gold and Clear Gelly Roll Pens add some sparkle with the red rhinestones.

My Hand-Penned Thank You Card

Thank You Card
Hand-Penned Thank You Card

Today I am sharing my Hand-Penned Thank You Card that is using the Hand-Penned Suite Collection by Stampin’ Up! I love getting the Suite Collections since you know everything will go together perfectly!

The Hand-Penned Suite Collection includes:

  • Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set (10% off)
  • Penned Flowers Dies (10% off)
  • Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper
  • Genial Gems

I thought that a Collar Fold would show off both sides of the beautiful Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper! So, I used my Collar Fold Template (found at the end of this post) to measure my DSP for the cutting and folding. Next, I used adhesive to glue the flaps down so that they didn’t interfere with the die cuts.

I wanted the “Thanks” sentiment to fit in the area between the folds resulting in a card that can be either vertical or horizontal. I found that I needed a background behind the stamped flowers to make them stand out from the DSP and the stitched circle from the Painted Labels Dies worked well for it. A butterfly was a perfect accent as if it is flitting from flower to flower on the DSP. The butterfly was die cut from the large piece of Highland Heather making sure that it was in a location that would be covered by the DSP which is a great way to save paper! A scattering of Genial Gems was all this card needed since I wanted the fold to be the focal point.

My Mythical Birthday Card

Birthday Card
My Mythical Birthday Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here to share my Mythical Birthday Card using the Mythical Cthulu Stamp Set by Kindred Stamps! This card was delivered to a little boy whose birthday is today. He loves anything mythical and especially Cthulhu which is a fictional cosmic entity created by writer H. P. Lovecraft.

Close Up of R'lyeh
Close Up of R’lyeh

For my card, I decided that a slimline slider card would be so cool with Cthulhu rising from the watery depths of the ruined city of R’lyeh (some Cthulhu Mythos for you)! I always create interactive cards for the little boy’s and his brother’s birthdays and get the best reactions from them! His reaction to this card was “Laurie’s cards are always good, but this is the best card ever!”. This just made my day!

Cthulhu Rising From R'lyeh
Cthulhu Rising From R’lyeh

I only used four Copic markers to colour Cthulhu. To make the Scary Town Die fit my slimline shape, I cut it in two. I then added some stitched hills to create my multi-level town. Since this was supposed to be at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, I added some sand with Crumb Cake Card Stock and use the embossing folder to give it texture. What better place to stamp the sentiment that came with the stamp set: “Happy Birthday to Cthu!”.

I had debated about using my Distress Inks to create my water background, but I found this DSP that was perfect for my scene. It even had fish!

To make my slider mechanism work, I used a ton of dimensionals, especially the Foam Adhesive Strips by Stampin’ Up! I even created a video with the slider card in action.

I’m Smiling Under This Face Mask

My Covid Design Team Card
I’m Smiling Under This Face Mask Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing I’m Smiling Under this Face Mask as my Design Team Inspiration Card using a number of digital stamps by Paper Nest Dolls including Essential Worker (Doctor)Essential Worker (Nurse)Essential Worker (Masks Set) and Avery in Heart.

I just received my second dose of the Covid vaccine on Monday and my Hubby received his on July 1st, which was Canada Day for us. So, I made a card for my Hubby and a different one for me to give to the medical staff as our way of showing our appreciation for what they are doing.

Don’t you just love the sentiment, “I’m smiling under this face mask”! It was from a Covid Fundraiser by Stampin’ Up! where you could buy a PDF with a ton of Covid sentiments.

Inside of My Covid-19 Card
Inside of My I’m Smiling Under This Face Mask

I love how you can add the Essential Worker (Masks Set) to a digital stamp either afterwards like I did with the doctor and nurse or add it directly to the stamp. I decorated the inside of my card with the Avery in Heart digital stamp, but I added a mask directly to her using Word. Then I coloured her with my Copic markers to match the nurse and doctor on the front of my card. I layered her onto the heart beat which I die cut from a die in my stash.

My Hubby’s Card

For my Hubby’s card, I created a Canadian flag on the front since he was getting it done on Canada Day. I even used “red/white checked flannel” Designer Series Paper for the background. Can’t get any more Canadian than that! Lol! Instead of using the Essential Worker (Masks Set), I left their faces bare. Isn’t it neat how you can get two different looks with and without the masks!

For the inside of his card, I used the Share Sunshine PDF Download by Stampin’ Up! for the Thank you Hero sentiment and punched it out using the Heart Punch.

Penelope Poppy Birthday Card

My Design Team card
My Penelope Poppy Birthday Card

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing my second Design Team Inspiration Card for June using the cute Penelope Poppy by Conie Fong Art & Design.

My mom’s birthday is coming up and I thought that Penelope would make a pretty birthday card! I had fun colouring her with my Copic markers in bright reds to match her poppies. I pulled out all my poppy crafting supplies to make my card. Stampin’ Up! has several poppy dies and I couldn’t resist creating a poppy to set off the sentiment. Even the paper behind the die cut that she is layered on has poppies. I decided to create a Soft Suede frame to focus on her and the sentiment. A scattering of red rhinestones adds to the red poppy theme!

Fun in the Sun Card

Happy Summer Crafty Friends! It’s Laurie here! I am sharing my Fun in the Sun Card as my Design Team Inspiration Card for Paper Nest Dolls using the digital stamp Surfer Emma.

First day of Summer was yesterday which inspired my card! This card came about because I just bought the Slimline Waves Die by Whimsy Stamps and couldn’t wait to play with it. I debated about a shaker card but decided that a scene using the waves as separators between the sand, water and sky would be fun.

I had this cool birthday paper in my stash that looks like waterdrops. Perfect for the fun colours of my image which I coloured with my Copic markers! I added a couple of “water drops” with my acrylic dew drops on some of the Bermuda Bay swirls around my stamp. For my sand and sky, I used a couple of embossing folders to add texture. Then I lightly brushed ink over the raised parts and edges to give those areas more dimension. Another fun accent was that the cloud and “sunshine” word were die cut from white felt to make them seem fluffy. Some shells from the dollar store add to my beachy theme.
